Printing! October 27 2013, 0 Comments

Well it sure has been a busy time of late. My book has been printed now, and is currently being bound, but that didn't happen without a few twists in the road. Nothing is ever straight forward!

I had been talking to my printer for quite some time, accepted the quote and booked in the job, and had verbal confirmation that my release date wasn't going to be a problem, and that they had plenty of time.

On this advice, I went ahead and booked a venue for my book launch, sent out the invites and started to get excited that this long and sometime torturous journey was coming to an end.

And then I got a phone call.

"I am very sorry, but we have had a hold up and we won't be able to meet your deadline."

WHAT!!!!!!!!!

By some small miracle, I managed not to scream at her, or burst into tears. In my best no nonsense voice that I occasionally have to employ while talking to non-compliant children, I asked her why then had she assured me only three days ago that all was going to be well, when they obviously had issues (a paper shortage), and how were they going to fix it, as my deadline was my deadline and there was no moving it!

There was a audible swallow on the other end of the line. She'd get back to me, she says.

Next phone call "If you get it saddle stitched instead of perfect bound, we can do it."

(Saddle stitching is were the books are basically folded in half and stapled, so you see the staples. Perfect binding is where the book was a spine and they are glued instead. I think they look much more professional.)

No, was my response.

The print rep was starting to sound a little bit desperate at this point – she'll make some more phone calls.

In the meantime, I am ringing printers frantically trying to get new quotes organised, but not many can do perfect binding on a book my size.... arghhhh!!

Another phone call "We can do it if we print it in Wellington then ship it to Auckland for binding, it won't cost you anything extra."

Thank goodness for that!

What a stressful day! And why could she not have come up with that behind the scenes and then presented me with the solution to the problem in the first phone call! I think she just expected my to say, that's ok, you can have another two weeks.

But on the bright side, my books are now printed, and I got to see the printer proofs which look lovely!

In other exciting news, Treasure! the song is complete and is being loaded up onto various websites - iTunes, Spotify, Google Play, Amazon & Youtube. I'll let you know when it's live, then you can tell everyone you've ever met to go and download it!

My cousin Cliff has spent ages getting it just right, and we have had Tony Stevens do the vocals, which sound sufficiently piratey.

So the countdown is on to launch date (2nd November) and here's hoping that it all goes smoothly from here!

Now I just need to buy a dress, write a speech, hire some glassware, organise nibbles, organise wine & juice, decorate (courtesy of Party by Design) chase up some RSVP's, and I think I am done.

Of course, this all needs to be done in amongst all my normal jobs, and i-set-type is super busy at the moment.

Wish me luck!

And if you are coming to the launch and haven't told me yet, please do!
